How to add or update your beehiiv profile picture
Your profile picture is the little touch that makes your byline feel like you. It shows up next to your name on newsletter posts and in the comments section of your publication. This article walks you through updating it, plus how Gravatar can step in automatically if you'd rather not upload one.
Looking to update your profile picture as a subscriber instead? Read How to add a profile picture as a newsletter subscriber.
Your profile picture is separate from your publication logo. To update your publication logo, go to Settings > General Info.
How to add a profile picture as a newsletter publisher
Your publisher profile picture is the avatar that appears alongside your name as the author of your newsletter posts and in the comments section of your publication.
To access your profile settings:
- Log into your account and click on your profile in the top-right corner of the navigation bar. In the dropdown, click your name and email at the top to open your Account settings.
- In the modal that opens, click on your current profile picture (or placeholder icon if you haven't added one yet) to upload a new image. You can also update your name or bio here.
- Select a new image file from your device. Changes are saved automatically.
Use a square image for the best results. No minimum size is enforced, but a larger image will display more clearly across different screen sizes. We recommend 800x800 pixels, and supported formats are JPEG, PNG, WebP, and GIF.
Gravatar and publisher comment avatars
Publishers who haven't uploaded a profile picture will automatically use their Gravatar as their comment avatar, as long as their Gravatar account uses the same email address as their beehiiv account.
Gravatar is only available as a fallback for publisher accounts. Subscribers who haven't uploaded a profile picture will see an auto-generated gradient avatar instead.
For more information on using Gravatar with your beehiiv account, see: How to create a Gravatar profile photo for comments.
Displaying your Gmail profile picture in emails
If you send your newsletter using a Google Workspace custom domain, you can configure your Gmail profile picture to display in the emails you send to Gmail subscribers.
For setup instructions, see: How to use your Gmail profile pic to send your beehiiv publications.
Gmail profile picture display requires a custom domain connected to a verified Google Workspace account. It only affects how your sender image appears for Gmail subscribers and uses your Gmail profile picture, not the beehiiv profile picture configured in this article.
