How to navigate the redesigned paid subscriptions area

paid plans

The paid subscriptions area has been redesigned. Everything you used to manage from a single page with tabs now lives across four top-level tabs: Overview, Tiers, Paywalls, and Offers. The goal is to give each part of your subscription business a dedicated home.

This is a navigation and layout change only. Your existing tiers, offers, paywalls, prices, and subscribers are unchanged. You do not need to recreate anything.

To reach the redesigned area, go to Subscriptions from the left panel in your account.

The Overview tab

The Overview tab is the reporting home for your paid subscription program. It consolidates summary stats and charts that were previously spread across the Growth tab and the Breakdown tab.

Quick stats and graphs

Summary stats: A quick view of your MRR (Monthly Recurring Revenue), Active paid subscriptions, Free to paid conversion rate, and Churn rate to give you a quick view of your overall paid subscription performance.

Growth and revenue charts: Charts covering your Revenue, MRR growth, MRR, and ARR (Annual Recurring Revenue to help better visualize your paid subscription revenue and growth.

Overview tab sections

The Overview tab is divided into named sections, each covering a different slice of your subscription data:

  • Subscriptions section: Includes upgrade and downgrade data, previously located on the Attribution tab.
  • Plan section: Shows plan-type breakdowns, including pay-what-you-want purchases. (These were previously labeled "Donations" but reflect pay-what-you-want plan activity, which is a plan type rather than a separate purchase category.)
  • Offers section: Shows Promotion Effectiveness data and offer performance breakdowns.
  • Paywalls section: Per-paywall breakdown.

The Tiers tab

The Tiers tab is where you create and manage your subscription tiers. It replaces the tier-management portion of the old Paid Tiers tab.

To create a tier: Click on + New Tier.

Tiers tab sections

  • Overview section: View your existing tiers, their status, price, active subscribers, and revenue. Click on the 3 dots menu for options to edit, archive, or delete your existing tiers.
  • Gifts section: View your existing gift subscriptions.
  • Group subscriptions section: View your existing group subscriptions.
  • Settings section: Access your paid subscription settings, consolidated in one place for easier workflows. From here, you can disable paid subscriptions entirely if you wish.

Disabling a paid tier in beehiiv does not stop active subscribers from being charged in Stripe. To fully cancel billing, manage those subscriptions directly in Stripe or by clicking Cancel Paid Subscriptions in the Cancellation Actions section..

The Paywalls tab

The Paywalls tab is where you manage your standard paywalls and metered access. There is no functionality change: your existing paywalls, metered access configuration, and default paywall designation carry over unchanged.

To create a new paywall: Click on + New paywall.

Paywall tab sections

  • Standard paywalls. Create and edit custom paywalls, and set which one is your default. Publications with paid subscriptions enabled still have a default paywall, marked accordingly in the list.
  • Metered access. Configure the number of paid posts a reader can view before being prompted to upgrade, set the reset period, and toggle metered access on or off.

For step-by-step setup instructions, see How to create and apply standard paywalls and How to set up metered paywall access.

The Offers tab

The Offers tab covers two distinct areas: Subscription offers and complimentary access, giving you complete control over your discount and trial options to convert more readers into paid subscribers.

To create a new offer: Click + New offer.

Subscription offers

Offers include three types: free trial, paid trial, and percent discount. Creating an offer is a two-step flow: choose the offer type, then complete the details and select the tiers it applies to.

The offers list separates active, expired, and archived offers and shows the same columns as before: defaults, expiry, whether a card is required, and the private description.

Paid trials charge a small upfront amount and then transition to the regular tier price. Canceling during a paid trial does not issue a refund; the reader retains access until the end of the period they paid for.

Complimentary access

Complimentary access, which grants a reader access to a paid tier at no charge, is managed from the Offers tab through its own separate flow. It is not part of the offer creation steps described above.

For step-by-step instructions for both offers and complimentary access, see How to customize paid subscriptions.

Frequently asked questions about the Paid Subscriptions navigation changes

Did my existing tiers, offers, paywalls, or subscribers change?

No. This is a navigation and layout change. Your tiers, prices, offers, paywalls, and subscribers are unchanged. Only where you manage them has moved.

Where do I manage offers now?

On the Offers tab. Offer creation covers 3 types: free trial, paid trial, and percent discount. Complimentary access is also on the Offers tab.

Where did paywalls go?

Paywalls are now their own tab, covering both standard custom paywalls and metered access. No functionality has changed, and your existing configuration carries over.

Where are Group subscriptions and Gifts?

Both Group subscriptions and Gifts now appear on the Tiers tab. They were previously under the Breakdown tab.

Where are Advanced Options, including Allow Multiple Recurring Subscriptions?

Advanced Options are now in the Settings section of the Tiers tab. When Allow Multiple Recurring Subscriptions is disabled, a new subscription purchased by your subscriber replaces any existing subscription, regardless of tier. This setting does not affect One Time and Pay-what-you-want purchases.

Where do I cancel paid subscriptions or disconnect Stripe?

Both actions are now in the Settings section of the Tiers tab — scroll down to Cancellation Actions.

Disabling a paid tier in beehiiv does not stop active subscribers from being charged in Stripe. To fully cancel billing, manage those subscriptions directly in Stripe or by clicking Cancel Paid Subscriptions in the Cancellation Actions section.

Where is the Upsell Email?

The Upsell Email is now in the Settings section of the Tiers tab.

Where did Donations history go?

'Donations' referred to Pay-what-you-want plan purchases, which is a plan type rather than a separate purchase category. That data now appears in the Plan section of the Overview tab, grouped with other plan-type breakdowns.

Where is Promotion Effectiveness?

Promotion Effectiveness is now in the Offers section of the Overview tab. You can view your offer redemptions and conversion rates, providing you with a visual of the effectiveness of your promotion strategy.
