How to customize paid subscription offers

The Paid Subscriptions area has been redesigned. If your navigation looks different from what you remember, see How to navigate the redesigned paid subscriptions area for a full map of where everything moved. Your existing paid subscription tiers, offers, and settings will be unchanged.
Customizing your paid subscriptions, through trials and discount offers, is one of the most effective ways to grow your subscriber base and increase revenue. beehiiv gives you the tools to tailor your subscription strategy at every level.
If you need to update your currency, you can do so when updating your paid subscription tiers. Supported currencies include USD, AUD, BRL, CAD, EUR, GBP, INR, MXN, and NZD.
Offers overview
Offers are created and managed from the Offers tab under Subscription offers. Three offer types are available: Free trial, Discount, and Paid trial.
When creating a new offer, you first select the offer type, then configure the options for that type. The available fields and advanced settings vary depending on which type you select.
To view all your offers, go to Subscriptions > Offers. The list separates active, expired, and archived offers, and shows each offer's defaults, expiry, whether a card is required, and the private description.
How to add a free trial offer
A free trial gives new subscribers full access to your paid tier at no cost for a set period, then converts to the tier's standard pricing.
- From the left panel, go to Subscriptions, then click the Offers tab.
- Click on + New offer.
- Select Free trial as the offer type, then click on Next.
- Fill in the basic offer details:
- Name (required): Internal label, not shown to subscribers.
- Description (optional): Shown to subscribers at checkout.

Internal notes (optional): Optional internal notes for organization. This is not shown to subscribers.
- Under Offer configuration, set the Length of Trial by using the dropdown menu. Choose between 1, 2, 7, 14, 30, 60, or 90 days. Then, add optional offer terms, if you wish.

Under Eligible tiers and billing cadences, use the text field to search and select between your tiers and the billing cadences applied to your tiers. If you wish to remove any that you selected, simply click the X next to the tier or cadence.
Group subscriptions are not eligible for free trial offers.
- Under How can this offer be accessed, use the dropdown to choose between Direct link only or Default upgrade page and direct link.
- Once your offer is set up, you can preview your offer on the right to see how it will look on your upgrade page and in pricing blocks.
To edit the look and feel of your offer, click on Edit in website builder →. For more details, read Featuring subscription upgrades and pricing on your site. - After previewing and verifying that everything is to your preference, click on Next to move to advanced settings.
- On the Advanced settings page, configure any of the advanced settings you want to include by simply toggling on and off each option.
Set an expiry date for this offer: Toggle this on to choose an expiration date for the offer. Subscribers won’t be able to redeem the offer after this date. Use the Calendar icon to select the exact date your offer expires.Allow trial redemption without a credit card: Lets subscribers start a free trial without entering payment details. By default, this will also toggle on Send trial reminder email.
Send an email to remind readers their trial is going to expire: This option is turned on by default when you allow trial redemption without a credit card, but you can toggle it off on independent of the trial without a credit card option.
Choose the number of days, and use the dropdown menu to choose between before the trial ends or after the trial ends.
If you want to customize your reminder email, click on Edit reminder email. This will open the email editor in a new tab so you can fully configure your upsell email. - When you’ve finished configuring your advanced settings, click Create to save. The offer will appear in your offers list.
You can also view and update the Upsell Email from Subscriptions > Tiers > Settings after the offer has been created.
How to add a paid trial offer
A paid trial gives new subscribers full access to your paid tier at discounted cost for a set period, then converts to the tier's standard pricing.
- From the left panel, go to Subscriptions, then click the Offers tab.
- Click + New offer.
- Select Paid trial as the offer type, then click on Next.
- Fill in the basic offer details:
Name (required): Internal label, not shown to subscribers.
Description (optional): Shown to subscribers at checkout.
Internal notes (optional): Optional internal notes for organization. This is not shown to subscribers. - Under Offer configuration, set the Paid trial duration by typing the amount in the text field and using the dropdown menu to choose the unit. Choose between Days, Weeks, Months, or Years.
- Then, use the dropdown to select your Trial billing to decide how often subscribers should be charged during the paid trial. The options available to you are based on the duration you set above.
- Once you’ve selected your billing cadence, set a Trial price and add any Offer terms (optional).

A discount applies a percentage off the tier price for a set duration.
- From the left panel, go to Subscriptions, then click the Offers tab.
- Click on + New Offer.
- Select Discount as the offer type, then click on Next.
- Fill in the basic offer details:
- Name (required): Internal label, not shown to subscribers.
- Description (optional): Shown to subscribers at checkout.

- Under Offer configuration, set the Discount percentage, the Discount duration: Once (applied to the first payment only), Forever (Applied to every billing cycle), or Repeating (Applied for a set number of billing cycles), and add any Offer terms (optional).
