What you can do with the beehiiv MCP
The beehiiv MCP lets your AI tool take real action inside your beehiiv account using plain-language prompts. This article walks through what that looks like in practice, from drafting content to building automations to auditing your website for SEO.
If you haven't connected the MCP yet, refer to Getting started with the beehiiv MCP for detailed instructions.
Write actions — creating, editing, and managing content — require a paid beehiiv plan. Free plans have read-only access to the MCP.
Write and manage content
You can prompt your AI tool to create and edit posts, update templates, and organize your content library, directly from within your AI client.
Example prompts:
- "Draft a post about the three biggest mistakes new newsletter writers make. Use my most recent five posts to match my tone."
- "Rewrite the subject lines from my last 10 posts to be more curiosity-driven. Show me the originals and suggested replacements side by side."
- "Apply my [template name] template to this draft and adjust the section order to put the main story first."
- "Create a new content tag called 'Sponsor Recap' and apply it to all posts that mention [brand name]."
Posts can be drafted and edited via the MCP, but must be published or scheduled from the beehiiv app.
Understand and organize your audience
You can use your AI tool to add structure to your subscriber data: subscriber tagging, building segments, creating custom fields, and setting up surveys and polls to capture what your audience cares about.
Example prompts:
- "Tag everyone who clicked on my last three posts as 'Highly Engaged' in my subscriber list."
- "Create a custom field called 'Referral Source' so I can track which lead magnets new subscribers came from."
- "Build a segment of free subscribers who've opened at least five emails in the last 30 days but haven't upgraded to paid. Save it as 'High Intent Free.'"
- "Create a one-question poll asking my subscribers which topic they want me to cover next month: investing basics, tax strategy, or real estate."
- "Set up a three-question survey for new subscribers to fill out after they confirm — focused on their goals and experience level."
Grow and convert subscribers
You can manage the forms, flows, and recommendations that bring new subscribers in and guide them through your signup experience.
Example prompts:
- "Review my current subscribe form copy and suggest three A/B test variations that focus on the outcome subscribers will get, not the format."
- "Update my welcome signup flow to mention my new podcast in the confirmation step."
- "Find newsletters on beehiiv that cover similar topics to mine and would make good cross-promotion partners."
- "I just launched a new lead magnet. Create a dedicated subscribe form for it with copy that matches the landing page."
Manage your ad network and direct sponsorship agreements
You can view what ad opportunities are available, check direct sponsorship agreements, and manage the tiers that make up your paid newsletter.
Example prompts:
- "What ad opportunities are currently available for my publication? Summarize the categories and CPMs."
- "Show me a summary of my upcoming sponsorship agreements — dates, brands, and any notes on deliverables."
- "Create a new paid tier called 'Founding Member' at $199/year and describe what's included."
- "I want to add a lower-priced monthly option. Duplicate my existing paid tier and set the price to $7/month."
Direct sponsorship data and paywall content are currently read-only via the MCP.
Build automations
You can design full automation workflows and the emails within them — from simple welcome sequences to multi-step re-engagement flows.
Example prompts:
- "Build a five-email welcome sequence for new free subscribers. Email 1 should introduce me and my newsletter. Emails 2 through 4 should deliver my best evergreen posts. Email 5 should pitch my paid tier."
- "Add a re-engagement email to my existing onboarding automation that sends on day 14 to anyone who hasn't opened the first three emails."
- "Review my current welcome automation and identify any steps where I might be losing subscribers — look for drop-off patterns."
- "Create an automation that sends a thank-you email 24 hours after someone upgrades to paid."
Automations can be built and configured via the MCP, but must be activated from the beehiiv app.
Analyze and repurpose your podcast
You can pull podcast data into your AI tool to analyze performance, repurpose episode content, and understand your audience.
Example prompts:
- "Which of my podcast episodes got the most plays last month? Break it down by episode title."
- "Pull the transcript from my latest episode and turn it into a newsletter post in my usual format."
- "Compare listener stats across my last 10 episodes and tell me which topics or guest types performed best."
- "Show me where my podcast listeners are located and which apps they're using."
Improve your website
You can manage your site's SEO metadata and redirects, and pull analytics to understand how your pages are performing.
Example prompts:
- "Audit all my website pages and flag any that are missing meta descriptions or have titles longer than 60 characters."
- "Rewrite the meta description for my About page to better match what a first-time visitor would search for."
- "I renamed my newsletter from 'The Brief' to 'Signal.' Set up redirects from all the old URLs that used 'the-brief' to the new equivalents."
- "Which pages on my website got the most traffic last month? Break it down by page."
Page body content and design cannot be edited via the MCP. Metadata and redirects only.
Other things you can do
- Image assets: Upload images and manage your asset library so they're ready to use in posts and templates.
- Guest authors: Create and manage guest author profiles, including bios and social links, so contributors are properly credited on posts.
- External RSS feeds: Add and manage external RSS feeds to pull in content from other sources for reference or curation.
