Subscriber login options
One of the perks of having your own publication website is giving subscribers the ability to log in and access your content online. This article explains how subscribers can view your posts, the login methods available, and answers to frequently asked questions.
How subscribers access your posts
Read Online from your email
Subscribers can click Read Online in your email newsletter to open the post on your publication website. If the post is gated, they’ll need to log in to view it.
Login from your website
Subscribers can also log in directly from your publication’s website by clicking the Login button on the home page. This opens a login modal based on your publication security settings.
If you're using the Website Beta for your publication website, you can customize the appearance of this login option — so it may not always display as ‘Login’.
How subscribers can log in
One-time password (OTP) login
This is enabled by default and allows subscribers to enter their email address to receive a one-time password and log in to your site. You can turn this option off in your publication security settings if needed.
Password login
If you enable Subscriber Password Login, the login modal will prompt subscribers to enter their email and click Log in with password to access their account. For the legacy Website Builder, this option can be enabled alongside the OTP login option.
Magic link login
If both OTP and subscriber password login options are disabled for the publication, subscribers will receive a magic link in their email to access your publication as a logged in subscriber
Preview examples do not reflect custom styling for the login modal. For the legacy Website Builder, you can customize the login modal (fonts, buttons, etc.) in Website Builder > Settings > Security. To make login adjustments in the Website Builder Beta, go to the left panel and click on the Login page, then you can make customizations on the right panel or within the mini editor to adjust the fonts, buttons, etc.
Frequently asked questions about subscriber logins

If your subscribers are being prompted to enter a one-time password (OTP), it's because this login method was automatically enabled for most publications on April 16, 2025. When OTP login is enabled, the magic link option is disabled by default.
You can turn off the OTP login method anytime from the legacy Website Builder > Settings > Security, as outlined in this article. For Beta websites, you will do this from the Website Beta > Settings > Login area, toggling the feature off will automatically update the setting. -
Magic links often open in embedded browsers within mobile email apps like Gmail or Apple Mail. These sessions don’t carry over to the device’s main browser, so subscribers aren’t truly logged in — and the login ends as soon as the email app is closed.
One-time passwords solve this by allowing subscribers to enter their code directly in their primary browser, which ensures they stay logged in and have uninterrupted access to your content.

If a subscriber doesn’t receive the one-time password email, first, you should confirm they’ve subscribed to your publication, if they have then they should safelist the sender address: buzz@tx2.beehiiv.com.
Once they’ve safelisted the email, they can return to the OTP login screen and click on the Resend One-Time Password button to generate a new code.

First, verify that the subscriber is signed up for your publication by going to Audience > Subscribers in your account and searching for their email address. If they haven’t signed up, they won’t be able to receive a magic link or password email. In this case, they will need to sign up for your publication before requesting a magic link or setting a password.
The magic link and password emails are sent from our domain: buzz@tx2.beehiiv.com. Have your subscriber check all email folders, including spam/junk, and add our sending domain to their safelist. Yes, even after setting up a password, subscribers can choose to log in with either a magic link (or OTP) or their password.

A publication can send a Reset Password email to their subscribers by selecting Reset Password from the dropdown in a subscriber’s profile.

Your subscriber can simply ignore the email if they did not initiate the password reset. No changes will be made to their account.

If you're receiving a password reset email from a publication you don't recognize, you can click the Unsubscribe link in the footer of the email to stop receiving future emails.

Currently, links cannot come from your custom domain. However, we recognize the importance of custom domains for branding and user experience, and we are actively exploring options to make this feature available in the future.

Yes, in the legacy Website Builder you can disable the password options by navigating to Design > Website Builder > Settings > Security and toggling them off. If both subscriber login options are disabled, users will receive your publication’s magic link to access their account.
